Biography - Selen Apaydin

Bio

Piano010 was founded to legitimize the educational, performative, and publishing activities of Selen Apaydın, a professional classical pianist, educator, and researcher based in Rotterdam Centrum. By demonstrating refined technique, expressive control, and a nuanced interpretive approach that results in musical richness, she graduated Cum Laude as a soloist in her master’s degree. Daughter of Mustafa Apaydın, one of Turkey’s most distinguished choir conductors and music educators, she grew up in a family rich with academic educators and artists. Selen began playing piano at age 6 and entered a full-time conservatory talent class at age 9. At 16, she was sent abroad to study intensively under the renowned Maestro Aquiles Delle Vigne for nine years. After obtaining her Master’s degree, she continued refining her artistry at La Schola Cantorum in Paris, studying the legacy of Debussy, Cortot, and Messiaen.

As a performer, she has appeared extensively in respected venues across Europe including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Berliner Philharmonic Kamermuziek Hall, and participated as a cultural ambassador fostering international artistic collaborations.

As the founder of Piano010, Selen has been living and teaching in Rotterdam Centrum for 22 years, amassing over 12,000 hours of dedicated lesson experience focused on advanced music education.

Selen’s pedagogy is recognized for preparing students to university-level conservatory and professional music careers. Many of her former students are now active as professional pianists, composers, and international competition participants. She also provides confidential prep work for advanced students studying abroad, supporting their artistic ambitions with tailored coaching.

For many years, Selen has focused on developing creative, individualized teaching methods for highly motivated, advanced students. She no longer accepts children or true beginners for private lessons. Instead, she encourages adult beginners (and anyone approaching piano study as an adult learner from age 12 onward) to begin with her rigorously tested, research-driven curriculum—developed and refined over six years—and only apply for lessons after serious independent study and submitting a demonstration video. Those who can already read music fluently and play a range of beginner pieces should start with her curated “Early Intermediate Piano Pieces” collection, which is designed to help transition efficiently to the next level of study.

Through all phases of her career—performance, innovative teaching, and original research—Selen remains dedicated to elevating artistic and educational standards for every motivated student. Her studio, methodology, and publications are designed to foster sustainable musical fluency and creativity, allowing her to focus on advancing methods in artistic education. Prospective students ready for advanced repertoire, conservatory preparation, or serious artistic growth are invited to contact Selen and explore her teaching philosophy and testimonials at her artistic website, selenapaydin.com.
